The book of the New Testament that we call “Jude” is actually an open letter to Christians in the first century. Do not be taken by the brief length of this letter. I preached a series on this book for three weeks. A brother told me that when I started, he wondered how I was going to get a dozen messages from this little letter. At the end, he was concerned that I was not going to finish the study.
The author is believed to be Jude, the brother of James, the half-brother of the Lord Jesus Christ. He never claims that honor for himself , but external evidence and tradition lead to this conclusion.
There is some difficulty in working through this text including references to events not found in our Bible. These references are included to illustrate the unique content of the text.
I have multiple variations of notes as I revisited the study a few times. These are study notes, not a commentary. Sometimes I was exploring possibilities and as such the reader should consider that I did not always reach solid conclusions to the meaning of the text.
